Dr. Kim Thomas Smith

Meet Dr. Kim

Kim Thomas Smith is a Georgia native, raised with deep Southern roots and values that taught her leadership is not about titles; it is about responsibility. When you see a need, you step in. When people are struggling, you show up.

When she chose Henry County, it was not by accident. She was drawn to its small-town, countryside feel, its sense of unity, and its people. What began as a place to live became much deeper. Henry County did not just become her home—it became her calling.

She has also served through Helping In His Name Ministries, Inc. and other outreach efforts that meet immediate needs while helping people move forward, organizing food giveaways, toy drives, Angel Tree programs, and holiday assistance so families have meals to share and children do not feel forgotten during hard seasons.

Kim is married to Harris Smith, Jr., and is a proud bonus mother to Nigel Smith. Family remains the foundation of her life and the lens through which she serves Henry County.

Kim’s service shows up where people live, worship, and need help most. She has worked with churches, nonprofit partners, apartment complexes, schools, and volunteer networks to make sure resources reach real people, not just paperwork.

She has made wellness calls to seniors through the One2One Telephone Assurance Program with the Atlanta Regional Commission, mentored and tutored students, supported youth through community programs, and helped neighbors navigate systems that can feel confusing and overwhelming.

She has also done the unglamorous work that keeps communities strong: organizing document shred events to protect residents from fraud, participating in park cleanups and beautification efforts, coordinating financial literacy workshops, and building volunteer programs that bring people together to serve.

None of it has been about attention. It has been about responsibility. It has been about faith. It has been about community.

Why “Dr.” Matters.

Kim Thomas Smith earned her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership because she wanted to understand not just how organizations function, but how they can be strengthened to serve people better.

Her doctorate was not about a title; it was about skill and purpose: understanding how systems work, where they break down, and how to fix them in ways that actually help people.

Her education strengthened a leadership style shaped by servant leadership—showing up for people, listening first, and acting with a settled commitment to serving others.

It taught her to see inefficiencies, listen carefully to all perspectives, and create solutions that are practical, fair, and compassionate—skills she has applied through her work with nonprofits, volunteers, and families across Henry County.

Professional Leadership That Supports Real-World Service

Kim’s commitment to service runs through every chapter of her life, from her early volunteer work to her corporate career and the nonprofit organizations and civic groups to which she has devoted herself for decades.

Even then, she prioritized community engagement, creating opportunities for others to serve and experience the impact firsthand.

Her service also includes decades of involvement with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she has embraced a mission centered on service and community impact.

What Shaped Her Decision To

Step Forward

Making Sure Henry County's Voice is Heard At The Capitol.

Kim describes her decision to run as something that didn’t come from ambition or a desire for recognition, it came from a calling she couldn’t ignore. While volunteering virtually to support families in need, she felt a clear nudge from God that the work she had been doing needed to reach further.

She had already seen the pressures families and seniors were facing and recognized how behind-the-scenes service could be magnified to make a broader difference across the community by fighting for them at the Capitol in The Georgia Legislature.
